Callout for Volunteers: Join Us in Running 'Girls Connect'

September 11, 2024

We're excited to announce that we are looking for two to three volunteers to help manage and support the 'Girls Connect' private members' group.

This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a dynamic team, take on a more active role in our community and meet like-minded people.

About the Role
The role primarily involves posting content (provided by the Skylarks team) about upcoming events and other useful information to the group, approving new members. As a volunteer, you’ll be responsible for moderating the Facebook group, which serves as a vital platform for parents, carers, and autistic young women to connect and support one another.

Looking Ahead: Online and Face-to-Face Engagement

While our events are currently held online, mostly in the evenings, we are exploring the possibility of organising face-to-face meetings in the future. Volunteers may play a key role in supporting these events, both online and offline.

Why Volunteer with Us?
By joining us, you will receive full training and ongoing support from the Skylarks operations team. You'll also become a valued member of the Skylarks volunteer community, with invitations to volunteer events, including training, social events and other volunteer opportunities. If you don’t have a recent DBS check, Skylarks will arrange one for you. Volunteering with Skylarks can be added to your CV and is a great way to either re-enter the world of work or transition to charity sector employment - we give references too.

While making a real difference in the lives of parents, carers, and autistic girls and young women.

About Girls Connect
Girls Connect is a support group for parents and carers of autistic girls and young people or those on the social communication pathway. We also warmly welcome autistic young women.

As part of Skylarks, Girls Connect was established to facilitate networking among parents, share resources, and provide support tailored to the unique needs of autistic girls. Our private, members-only, group has grown to over 230+ members from Southwest London and beyond. This group is a valuable space for sharing lived experiences, posting queries, and exchanging support. In term
time, we also host free online events with specialist guest speakers every six to eight weeks, based on the interests and needs of our members.

Why Your Help Matters
Volunteers are essential to keeping this service running and fresh. By volunteering with Girls Connect, you’re not just helping to manage a group—you’re contributing to a stronger, more inclusive community for parents, carers, and autistic young women.

If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Dee at deirdre@skylarks.charity or Mia Patterson at info@skylarks.charity.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our community!
