Drama for Social Communication with Knots Arts - AGES 11 - 17

Run by Knots Arts

This is a session for young people aged 11 - 17 years and will run every other week starting Tuesday 17th September

Knots Arts offers A creative space to untangle social knots

Cassie from Knots Arts says: "Our mission is to create inclusive, friendly and fun sessions were children and young people feel safe and supported to develop their communication skills and build friendships. By meeting others who understand the challenges that social communication difficulties can bring, children are able to work together to embrace their differences and overcome any obstacles that they may present."

The drama sessions consist of games and activities which are designed to support the development of team working, language processing and understanding of speech. Each session begins with a sharing of news from our week, followed by drama games appropriate to the ability of the group and culminating in a drama activity such as story-telling, physical theatre or improvisation. The young people contribute ideas for characters and storylines which are included and interwoven ensuring everyone is involved. We end with a group sharing of how we have done and what we enjoyed. The classes are very fluid, with activities suggested by the young people and adapted to suit their ideas and interests. Young people with any disability and with any level of need are welcome to take part.

Class time: 5.00 - 5.45pm EVERY OTHER Tuesday during term time FROM 17TH SEPTEMBER

For those aged 11 and above, young poeple with additional needs and siblings all welcome. Please wear loose comfortable clothing. Free of charge but donations are welcome. Parents are welcome to stay in the room with their young person or to come downstairs and have a cup of tea/coffee with the Skylarks staff, volunteers and other parents.

What do I need to do before I come?

IF THE DRAMA CLASS APPEARS FULL, PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD'S NAME ON THE WAITING LIST HERE. CANCELLATIONS OFTEN HAPPEN AND WE WILL CONTACT YOU IF A SPACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.

What do the sessions at the Crossway Centre look like?

The staff at Skylarks wear purple Skylarks T-shirts, so that you can recognise us! Volunteers wear orange Skylarks T-shirts.

A staff member or volunteer can make you a cup of tea or coffee.  Please keep all hot drinks out of the reach of children.

There is a lift to the first floor.

Buggies and prams can be left under the stairs where they will not obstruct exits or access to the lift.

You may bring your own snacks and eat them in the hall NOT any of the play rooms, but please do not share them and please do not bring anything containing nuts or sesame. Please do not leave water bottles where they might be used by others. Please supervise your children when eating to make sure they don’t leave food lying around and please clean up any spillages or leftovers.

If your child has a toileting accident, we ask you to clean up. We will provide gloves and cleaning materials. Please have a spare set of clothes with you.

Donations can be made by contactless card reader, not in cash.

Thank you for helping to make Skylarks a safe place for everyone
