Karate for 8 years old and above

Run by Tony, Sensei

Our karate class is run by Tony, a Sensei from the Busen Academy in Twickenham and takes place at our usual session every Tuesday afternoon in term time from 4.45 to 5.30pm. This class is for children and young people aged 8 and above.

This activity is for children with special needs and their siblings are welcome to take part too. This club gives children confidence to see what they can do – and learn some Japanese words too! Come and try it, or just watch to start with and then join in when you are ready. The sensei, Tony, has many years experience with children with SEND and also teaches at Busen Academy.

All welcome, beginners and siblings too!

For ages 8 and above

From 4.45 to 5.30pm every Tuesday in term time.

We ask parents to stay on site while their children are doing karate. There is space for a few parents to sit in the room and watch the activity; others will be asked to wait on the landing, in the hallway downstairs or outside. You are welcome to have a cup of tea or coffee and chat to each other!

Classes are free of charge but we suggest a donation of £6 per class. This can be done using contactless card payment machine at the session or via our website.

When children have decided that they wish to continue with the karate class, they may wish to wear a karate suit. Up till that point, we request that they wear loose clothing, such as a T shirt and jogging bottoms. Skirts and shorts are not suitable. They will need to remove their socks and shoes so they can take part with bare feet. Karate suits can be bought second hand online and are sometimes available through our karate instructor.

A FULL RISK ASSESSMENT IS AVAILABLE TO VIEW ON REQUEST.

This activity is insured through the karate instructor directly and any queries with regards to insurance should be directed through him.

Since the children have started, parents have reported improvements in their children’s skills such as; focus, concentration, attention and listening, co-ordination, balance, core strength, confidence, organisational skills.

Feedback from children attending and their parents illustrate the benefits — here are some quotes from the children:

“Every time I do it, it makes me really happy”
“It’s fun and good for the muscles”
“I enjoy it: it’s good fun”
“It’s brilliant. You get to meet new people and do fun stuff”
“It helps me if I’m a bit angry to let it all out”
“I love it!”

If the karate class is full and your child would like to attend, please put their name on our waiting list here. We will contact you if a space becomes available, which happens fairly often due to illness or indisposition.
